In June 1997 I was setting off on a sponsored bike ride to raise funds for cancer care and research. The ride was the 1,000 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats and it was to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research and St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds.

When I mentioned this to Mike & Ann they said "We'll take you to Penzance so you don't have to worry about getting to the start". So the day before my start they picked up me and my bike at home in East Yorks and took me down to Cornwall.

The day after they met me at the Lands End starting point and waved me off.

I will never forget their marvellous support and generosity.
